GeoPortal Sculptures
by Brian Fries
Each piece in the GeoPortal series is constructed from objects thrown on the Potter's wheel, and features some form of moveable or posable component.

"Geo" refers to both the geologic source of the clay and glaze materials, and also to the geometry of the individual 3D primitive objects (torus, cone, cylinder, sphere, etc) that make up the larger sculpture.

"Portal" refers to passage through the sculpture - through a ring - of light, time, dimension, spirit or whatever energy the viewer chooses to bring with him or her.

Additionally, the relationship of the sculptural components to one other is analogous to the relationships between people. Friends, family, community, strangers - all have an intriguing relationship with one another, and the combination of the elements of these sculptures creates a similar interplay.
